About the Webinar

Following the powerful insights shared in our first session, Bridging Minds: The Transformative Power of Digital Storytelling in Mental Health Care, this webinar will continue to explore how digital storytelling is reshaping mental health care by connecting clinical knowledge with the real, lived experiences of those navigating mental health challenges.

In Part 2, we’ll dive into essential topics that emerged from our initial discussion and address key questions left unanswered in October. This session will feature deep reflections from our panelists on the unique capacity of storytelling to humanize mental health care, offer strength-based support, and create safer spaces for vulnerability and growth.

Key topics to be covered include:

  • Humanizing Statistics Through Storytelling: Understanding how personal narratives can bring depth and empathy to the data-driven aspects of mental health care.
  • Navigating Vulnerability in Professional Spaces: Insights on how sharing personal stories as clinicians and professionals can normalize mental health discussions and build more compassionate systems.
  • Principles of Safe Storytelling: Key guidelines for creating safe storytelling spaces that prioritize respect, emotional safety, and self-agency.

Additionally, we’ll have an open discussion with our panelists about the future of storytelling in mental health care and practical steps individuals and organizations can take to start integrating storytelling into their own practices.

Don’t miss this chance to deepen your understanding of digital storytelling’s role in mental health care and to engage in meaningful dialogue about creating more empathetic, human-centered care.

Asante Haughton

Program Manager, Storytelling at Unsinkable

Asante Haughton is a lot of things–entrepreneur, activist, organizer, speaker, writer, poet, and mental health worker–but stories and storytelling are at the heart of his work. Asante believes that stories have the ability to connect, build rapport, convey empathy, and forge linkages that support a shared endeavour in improving lives. Asante has leveraged stories, his own and others, to resounding success. His accomplishments include two TEDx talks and being named as one of Canada’s top 150 influencers in mental health. Notably, he also co-founded the Reach Out Response Network, an organization whose advocacy directly paved the way to the Toronto Community Crisis Service, a new fourth emergency service that responds to folks experiencing mental health crises with mobile crisis teams instead of police officers. Though his achievements have earned Asante a significant public profile (and even a Wikipedia entry), he is most gratified when a client or consumer of his work conveys that he has changed their perspective or even their lives. Nothing is more important to him.
