“It just happened to be the perfect thing”: Real-life Experiences of Generative AI Chatbots for Mental Health

Webinar

16 October 2024

About the Webinar

As ChatGPT and other generative AI tools become more widespread, people are increasingly using them to work on their mental health. But so far there is only limited research into why people use it, what it’s like to use it, and how it can help.

In this webinar, we will join a research team from King’s College London and Harvard Medical School who recently submitted for peer review a study to fill this gap, to hear what they discovered from interviewing 19 people about their real-life experiences of using generative AI for mental health.

Key themes to be discussed include:

  • Why generative AI shows promise as a valuable new lever in the digital mental health toolkit
  • How the team went about researching this and who they interviewed in their study
  • Key findings: why people used it, what impact it had, what it was like to use, and how it compares with therapy and other digital mental health apps
  • Implications for clinicians, researchers, and developers of digital mental health solutions
  • Where this study fits into the wider landscape of digital mental health research
