Professor Robert JT Morris is the Chief Technology Strategist for the Ministry of Health Transformation (MOHT) Singapore and a Professor at the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He advises the National Research Foundation in the Prime Minister’s Office, focusing on applying computer and information sciences, including AI, to healthcare transformation. Morris led IBM Research’s Global Laboratories from 2011-2017 and was named the “Smartest Scientist in Technology” by Fortune and Money Magazine in 2010.
During his tenure at IBM, Morris held several key positions, including VP of Services Research at the IBM TJ Watson Research Center and VP & Director of the IBM Almaden Research Center, where he contributed to pioneering technologies such as relational databases and the Deep Blue chess machine. He also served as Chairman of the Bay Area Science and Innovation Consortium (BASIC) from 2001-2005. Originally from Australia, he began his career at Bell Labs and has lived and worked in Asia since 2011. Morris has published over 90 scientific articles, holds 11 patents, and has received numerous accolades, including Fellow IEEE, the Australian-American Fulbright Fellowship, and the PICMET Leadership in Technology Management Award. He has also been an editor for IEEE Transactions on Computers and served on many boards.
