The 2024 Theme

The theme of the 2024 Congress is “Digital Building Capacity: 24/7 Mental Health Support for All.”

The rapid emergence of digital health technologies has revolutionised the field of mental health, offering innovative solutions to address the growing global burden of mental health disorders.

This year’s Congress will address how these technologies can build capacity in mental healthcare by enhancing the accessibility, affordability, and effectiveness of mental health services.

There will be no compromises in the mental healthcare of tomorrow. 24/7 mental health support for all is within our grasp, so now is the time to collaborate with our international colleagues and shape the new digital mental health ecosystem with precision and purpose.

Focus Areas of the 2024 Congress

The seven focus areas of the Congress on the theme of capacity building are:

Expanding Access to Mental Health Services

Digital mental health tools such as mobile apps, telehealth platforms, and online self-help resources have significantly expanded the reach of mental health services. They break down geographical barriers, enabling individuals to access support regardless of their location. This increased accessibility ensures that more people can receive timely and convenient mental health care.

1

Capacity Building for Mental Health Professionals and the Wider System of Care

Digital mental health extends its capacity-building benefits to mental health professionals as well as the wider mental health system of care. These tools allow therapists and counsellors to reach a broader client base and deliver care more efficiently. Training programs also benefit from online resources and simulations, enhancing the skills and knowledge of mental health professionals.

2

Reducing Stigma

Digital mental health platforms provide a discreet and private environment for individuals to seek help. This anonymity reduces the stigma associated with mental health issues, encouraging those who might have been hesitant to seek traditional treatment to access support online. This, in turn, promotes early intervention and better mental health outcomes.

3

Personalised and Data-Driven Care

Digital mental health solutions leverage data analytics and artificial intelligence to offer personalized mental health interventions. These tools analyse user data to tailor treatment plans, track progress, and provide real-time feedback. This data-driven approach optimises the effectiveness of mental health care.

4

Community and Peer Support

Safe online communities and peer support networks are thriving in the digital health landscape. These platforms enable individuals to connect with others facing similar challenges, fostering a sense of belonging and support. Peer-led initiatives and support groups can play a vital role in capacity building for mental health at the community level.

5

Early Intervention and Prevention

Digital mental health tools can detect early signs of mental health issues through data analysis and monitoring. This proactive approach allows for early intervention and prevention strategies, reducing the overall burden on mental health services.

6

Global Reach and Equity

Digital mental health transcends borders and socioeconomic disparities, making mental health resources more equitable and accessible worldwide. It has the potential to bridge the gap in mental health care access for underserved populations.
