The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) is an Indigenous-led, charitable organization that has
been in operation for 24 years. Our mission is to educate Canadians about the historical and
ongoing impacts of colonial oppression of Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, Métis) communities,
while promoting anti-racism, healing, and Reconciliation.
The LHF seeks to support the mental health and well-being of Residential/Day School, Sixties
Scoop and Child Welfare System Survivors, and Intergenerational Survivors in ways such as:
- Creating educational and mental health resources that offer traditional practices of well-
being and self-care through an Indigenous lens. - Community healing initiatives by hosting Cultural Reclamation Workshops that support
community healing and wellness through cultural/traditional practices and reconnection. - Collaboration with mental health organizations to deliver culturally-appropriate mental
health resources and workshop content. This is to ensure we are able to tailor services
to meet specific needs of Indigenous communities. - Survivor support by notifying people about content triggers within our website and
offering the National Indian Residential School Crisis Line and other resources.
Additionally, all LHF have received trauma-informed training that will benefit all
community members as we visit around the country to deliver our project. - Storytelling projects through media. Interweaving Our Communities is a resource portal
on our website that connects Indigenous Peoples and communities by sharing local
cultural practices and demonstrating how these practices benefit their own or others
well-being and healing journeys.
